IPN congratulates World Health Organisation (WHO) on Primary Care Toolkit

The Infection Prevention Network congratulates The World Health Organisation (WHO) on releasing a research-backed toolkit that will be critical in the fight against antimicrobial-resistant organisms (AMO), demonstrating that learned pandemic behaviours continue to be crucial.[i]

The WHO’s collection of existing standards measurement and implementation resources are commendable as they strengthen infection prevention and control (IPC) procedures and bolster confidence in health care practices globally.

The toolkit has been designed to assist in developing and strengthening IPC programmes at the primary care level.

However, it also contains information that will help in IPC management from the largest hospital levels to the smallest primary care facilities.

A spokesperson for the Infection Prevention Network said, “The Infection Prevention Network welcomes the release of the World Health Organisation’s toolkit and urges health officials globally not to forget the value of these critical resources in combatting future outbreaks as we emerge from COVID-19.”

“The adoption of stringent IPC protocols has been shown to dramatically reduce the risk of infection and help stop the spread of antimicrobial-resistant organisms, commonly known as superbugs.”

“Our members are responsible for the production and distribution of the highest quality infection prevention products and the most reputable infection prevention research and procedures.”

“The network calls upon health care professionals and providers to ensure they are always adhering to the highest level of infection prevention procedures and encouraging those they work with to do the same.”
